Abstract

This dataset presents the Annapolis Valley bedrock geology. The aquifer extends in five watersheds: Annapolis, Cornwallis, Canard, Habitant and Pereau. Paleozoic rocks underlie the South Mountain highlands and constitute the basement of Triassic rocks beneath the Valley. The Triassic-Jurassic Fundy Group underlies the Annapolis Valley and North Mountain.

Introduction
General process description
Process step Sources
The dataset was extracted from the file bedGeol.shp of the Annapolis project archives folder. The data regarding the geological units were found int the Hydrogeological Atlas of the Annapolis Valley produced by the Geological Survey of Canada. Bedrock geological units were assigned a lithologic class based on the dominant composition, with the understanding that some units are too complex to be assigned a single lithologic class, in order to render the map in a uniform national map. The original classification of the unit is still available in the dataset, along with a link to the Lexicon of Canadian Geologic Units (http://weblex.nrcan.gc.ca/). The GeoSciML / IUGS lithological classification has been used as a standard earth material vocabulary (http://resource.geosciml.org/).
